Our October Member of the Month

We are excited to announce that Linlu is our Member of the Month at Kendall Square CrossFit! This recognition has been in the works since before Linlu's summer internship, and we couldn’t wait for her return to full swing at the box. Linlu has consistently impressed us with her dedication, showing up day after day with a positive mindset and unwavering work ethic.

Not only does Linlu push herself during class, but we often see her putting in extra time afterward to improve her skills and strength. She’s always open to feedback from coaches and fellow athletes, constantly seeking ways to become a better version of herself. Her commitment to personal growth and the bright energy she brings into every class inspire those around her.

We’re thrilled to celebrate Linlu’s journey and look forward to seeing her continue to crush it at KSCF. Congratulations, Linlu!

I was never athletic in the first 20+ years of my life. In fact, I was quite the opposite. Sports were never my thing. Every PE class at school was literally my nightmare, and I struggled with pretty much every PE test. So if you told the old me that one day I’d be working out at 7 am every day, I would never have believed it.

I started working out more regularly during COVID, first with simple home exercises, then at the gym. I spent time at the gym pretty consistently, but I didn’t really feel much improvement, and I was worried that my form wasn’t correct. One YouTuber I followed started doing CrossFit when I was looking for something different, so I decided to give it a try.

I was a little bit scared in the very beginning because most of the time I couldn’t do all the movements, I had no idea what I was doing, and everyone looked so strong. But I was warmly welcomed by everyone here (big shoutout to the 7:15 am class who always encourage me). I pretty much got addicted to it. The time at the box is always the highlight of my day. Working out used to be a good “add-on” to my life, but now it’s something enjoyable and important. Every day, I look forward to going back, learning more, and becoming stronger. It’s also always inspiring and exciting to see everyone else make new PRs.

My favorite WODs are usually with barbell movements, like deadlifts and cleans. I like WODs with a combination of medium-level cardio and weightlifting. I don’t know if I have a specific least favorite WOD, although I’m not a big fan of overhead squats and wall balls. Perhaps a little surprising, I also don’t like sit-ups – they always hurt my butt. My post-workout is usually a smoothie with berries and banana.

Outside of CrossFit, I also really like musicals. You’ll probably find me in the theater if a Broadway tour comes to Boston, although that doesn’t happen too often. I work on natural language processing, so most of the time you’ll find me at my office, talking to ChatGPT. I usually use it to write everything, but I promise this wasn’t generated by ChatGPT. :)

When I started CrossFit, my biggest goal was to do a pull-up. As I’ve progressed, more things have been added to my goal list, including handstands, double unders, push-ups, and rope climbs. These have become the five things I want to achieve. I recently had some success with my handstands, magically. So I’m confident that I will accomplish all of these, with the help of KSCFam, hopefully in the near future!
