Why Corona Virus Can't Kill CrossFit

This is clearly a scary time in the world – the CrossFit world and the world in general. Our gym has closed as most gyms have, and we’ve been strongly cautioned to not gather in groups – two critical components of what is undoubtedly our primary source of solace.

But while life as we know it has changed indefinitely, it’s times like these where we need to call upon the core of CrossFit to carry us through to the other side.

First and foremost, remember the benefits of our training. Maybe we all show up to class because we’re self-proclaimed masochists and think our style of training is actually fun – BUT, there are some serious health benefits that go along with our daily suffering.

For one, exercise boosts immunity and prepares us (at least as much as anyone can ever be prepared for something like this) for health crises. Ultimately, we can trust that the internal state of our bodies will allow us to fight this awful disease. Our high-intensity workouts have given us improved lung capacity and made us less likely to experience serious symptoms associated with the Corona Virus.

We also see physical strength directly correlate with longevity when we look at research. Strong people are simply harder to kill – by people or viruses – and CrossFit stands on strength of body, mind and character.

We (try to) prioritize sleep, healthy food and stress relief, all paramount in keeping our immune systems strong and ready to fight.

Last but certainly not least, community and strong social ties are really at the crux of CrossFit, and they are crucial now more than ever – for our physical and mental health alike. While social distancing is a must in order to keep us and our loved ones safe, the relationships we’ve built in the box must continue during this time. We’ve suffered side-by-side in the gym and we can do the same outside the gym – maybe with six or so feet of separation between us…but that’s nothing compared to the distance we’ve traveled together in our journeys thus far.

SO, stay tuned for more at-home and outdoor workouts in the coming weeks, and we hope you’ll stay connected via our online platforms!
