🎉 October Member of the Month: Jen Minotti 🎉
We’re so excited to announce Jen Minotti as our October Member of the Month!
Jen shows up, and shows up often. You’ll catch her in class working hard, asking questions, and always finding ways to move smarter and safer. Her consistency and determination are matched only by her sense of humor. The kind that makes tough workouts feel just a little bit lighter (and keeps our coaches on their toes!).
Our coaching team has noticed how intentional Jen is with her training. She’s constantly looking for ways to refine her movements, modify with purpose, and get the most out of every WOD. Even when mobility or technical skills present a challenge, she never loses sight of the goal: hit the stimulus, stay safe, and have fun doing it.
And just when we thought she couldn’t impress us more, she signed up for the Hyrox competition last weekend. Because of course she did. 😎
Jen, thank you for bringing your energy, humor, and drive to KSCF. You embody exactly what our community is all about. Congratulations on being our October Member of the Month! 💪
Athletics have always been a huge part of my life, and while I may not look it, I am competitive. When I was 5, I won my first medal (8th place) in a regional swimming championships in New Jersey. The following summer, I not only won that race, but also set a new team record (which shockingly still stands!). By the time I was 11, I was swimming & competing 6-7 days/week, and at age 15, I qualified for Nationals. After that, I swam Division 1 for Boston University on a full athletic scholarship, earning All-Conference Honors. In my mid-20s to early 30s, I swam with the Cambridge Masters Swim Club, where I broke a World record as part of the 4x200 medley relay and placed 3rd in the US National Open Water Swim Championship in my age group. During this same time, I also watched my husband do a triathlon in upstate New York. Not one to watch from the sidelines (just ask Vicky … this is how I ended up doing Hyrox!), I joined the Cambridge Running Club and trained for my first triathlon (at age 28). Over the next 12 years, triathlon was woven into my everyday life. I competed at every distance, and even finished two Ironmans (IM Lake Placid & the very first IM Florida). I also ran in a lot of running races, including marathons, a 50K trail run, and 7 miles straight uphill in the Mt. Washington Road Race (don't ever do this race ... it's awful!). I also taught spinning classes for years and did pilates.
Fast forward to my mid-40s, when back-to-back frozen shoulders sidelined me for the first time in my life. Painful and frustrating (to say the least!), I lost mobility, muscle, and enthusiasm for athletics. That was … until I tried CrossFit! Drawn to KSCF for the accountability, group coaching, and 12 pm class schedule, I was also motivated to use CrossFit to rehab and rebuild strength and flexibility in my shoulders. Two years later, KSCF is my new love! Why? First, it appeals to my competitive nature & desire to challenge myself. I love testing myself physically and mentally, and I appreciate being with others who do the same (& without ego!). Second, every time I enter the Box, I know there’s something new to learn and/or accomplish, so that makes it interesting and motivating. Third, the coaching staff is supportive, knowledgeable, and quite entertaining (especially Jared)! And last, as a 56-year-old woman (& most likely the oldest in the Box), I like competing with younger people. It helps me stay young, I appreciate that I can still be improving at this age, and it’s fun chasing Vicky on the run and making her laugh! Plus, I get to reward myself with an “Elvis” post-workout at Life Alive, guilt-free!
My favorite KSCF WODs are the longer, endurance ones, especially the Soul Crushing Saturday ones that involve a lot of running & rowing. My least favorite movements are—hands down—Snatches! Power, Squat, Split—they all blow! And yet, even these have helped increase the mobility and strength in my shoulders, so I guess in all fairness, it’s a love-hate kinda thing! Outside of CrossFit, I love throwing pottery on the wheel, writing, reading, skiing, paddleboarding, taking long walks with my husband, and traveling with my family. Oh, and now Hyrox ... basically CrossFit on steroids!
