Our August Member of the Month: Simon Pouliot!!
We are thrilled to celebrate Simon Pouliot as our August Member of the Month! Since joining our community back in December, Simon has been an absolute powerhouse. He has cut an incredible amount of weight on his own, shown up big for community events, and jumped into Personal Training to level up his mobility and skill work. Simon never stops chasing the next challenging movement, and he has taken his growth even further by working 1 on 1 with our coaches. His dedication is contagious! Join us in giving Simon a huge congratulations on this well earned recognition!
Learn more about Simon:
Growing up in Quebec, I started skating and skiing when I was 5, then my main sport was really ice hockey from 7 to 17 years old. Team sports taught me so much about life, and I was blessed to have a wide range of coaches during these years. It really made me appreciate good mentoring, and I can tell you that we are extremely lucky at KSCF to have such amazing people training us. I'm grateful for their teaching and wanted to say a few words.
For me, Jared brings the funny dad energy and I love it. He's super caring and keeps us honest. I still laugh every time he screams when demo-ing exercises. Meaghan is also a beast of a coach. She doesn't miss. Always on point, has deep knowledge of all movements, and is very observant. She also inspires me as an athlete. I still can't believe her time for Murph! Nery's workouts will completely change your perspective of what hard means and will push you beyond your limits. The growth in mental strength has been noticeable. I'm not intimidated by any WOD anymore. Then Josh runs amazing strength training sessions and takes the gym-bro energy all the way, metal music is blasting, heavy lifts, the whole vibe. Finally coach Jinbi! She's new to coaching and that's what makes her great because she is super enthusiastic and eager to help us. She also has that special talent to shout "Come on Simon!" at the exact moment I'm about to take a quick rest. I guess I have a few reps left in the tank. Honestly, I love how all of you bring a different energy to the classes, how you make us feel seen and how professional you are.
I wish I had found CrossFit sooner. I did a drop-in with my cousin 2 years ago and I was happily surprised. I was already training at the gym casually, but something was missing. The community I found is the main reason I keep coming. Just knowing I'll be training with my friends in the morning is already enough motivation to show up and get it done. Shout out to the 7:15 crew! When the 10 sec countdown starts, I'm pumped and super grateful. There's no other place I'd rather be.
For my favorite WOD, I don't know the names well enough, but it would probably include deadlifts, pull-ups and rowing. I also love relay/alternating/synchro partner WODs. I'm all about that peer pressure. Then for my least favorite movement, I think I'm still traumatized by the 26.2 CrossFit Open workout with the 80-foot dumbbell overhead walking lunges at 50 lbs. (Why do I feel I'm going to regret sharing that?) Outside CrossFit I still play ice hockey, I also do a lot of salsa/bachata dancing, volleyball, yoga and I'm quite involved in the Francophone community in Boston! Finally, my goal for the next 6 months is to improve my mobility and my upper back posture. It's a long and slow process, hard to undo 20 years of coding on my laptop, but I'm slowly seeing results. I'm not giving up!
